Many people who experience trauma engage in victim like thinking or develop harmful coping skills that negatively impact life and relationships Repeating cycles of violence or continuing to stay in violent relationships is also common among survivors of trauma. People who experience violence or trauma may experience debilitating depression or anxiety, flashbacks or nightmares of abuse, low self-worth, or feelings of disgust, guilt, and shame.
The goal of therapy is to identify the ways in which the trauma has affected you, heal from the effects of violence or abuse, and create feelings of empowerment and well-being.
